How do I clean a vent port stuffer?

Any part that handles molten polymer will need cleaning at some point, usually at a material change, a colour change or planned maintenance. The question is whether that takes ten minutes or half a shift.

Screwtech Engineering designs its vent port stuffers with this in mind. Each unit has an easy clean two-part vacuum chamber and a separate seal housing. The chamber splits for access, so you can get to the screws and internal surfaces without fighting the unit.

The self-wiping twin-screw design also helps day to day. Because the intermeshing screws clean each other as they rotate, material does not sit on the flights and build up. That means less to clean in the first place and less chance of a blockage between scheduled maintenance.

High quality stainless steel construction suits regular cleaning in demanding production environments. The oil filled gearbox with water cooled jacket is built for long life at high temperature, so the drive side is not something you should be fussing over constantly.

Always follow safe isolation procedures and let the unit cool before opening it. Screwtech can advise on the right maintenance approach for your specific unit and the materials you run.

Vent port stuffers are available in various sizes for twin-screw and single-screw extruders. For anything maintenance related, or to replace an older unit that has become a pain to keep clean, speak to Screwtech Engineering.
