Restormel Machine has demonstrated how the right investment in technology can dramatically improve manufacturing efficiency, transforming a complex four-operation machining process into a streamlined single-operation solution.
Faced with growing demand for one of its key components, the Cornwall-based manufacturer recognised that its existing VMC process was no longer the most effective way to meet production requirements.
By introducing a Star SB20 sliding head lathe, the company successfully converted the part into a fully automated, bar-fed process completed in a single operation.
The move has delivered significant productivity benefits, while the machine's compact footprint and live tooling capabilities have helped maximise efficiency on the shop floor. With the new system installed and operational within weeks of ordering, Restormel Machine was able to respond quickly to increased customer demand.
In a recent discussion with MTDCNC, Lyndsey Vickers spoke to David Winter of Restormel Machine and Matt Lee of Star Micronics GB about how the combination of the right machine tool and expert support helped turn a production challenge into a straightforward and highly effective solution.
