The Queen Engraves A Medal Using A Pryor Laser Machine
On the 5th November 2015, The Queen visited the MOD Medal Office (MODMO) at Imjin Barracks, Gloucester where she engraved a medal using a Pryor Laser Marking machine. The Queen was provided with a tour of the MODMO which issues awards to serving personnel, veterans and their next of kin. Medals are issued in recognition of current Armed Forces service and for past service dating back to the start of the Second World War. Other awards engraved at the facility include The Queen’s New Year and Birthday Honours Lists and the Operation Honours Lists. Her Majesty was introduced to the engraving staff at the MODMO and invited to engrave one of the medals using one of the office’s Pryor Laser Marking machines. Barry Thompson, Chief Engraver said: “She [The Queen] was very interested in how the engraving machine works”. Pryor has been supplying the MODMO with laser marking machines to engrave medals for over a decade. The company has also engraved medals for charity in local competitions such as the Sheffield Half Marathon. “It’s a great privilege to be introduced to Her Majesty and to show her what we do in the Medal Office workshop” stated Barry Thompson.
