Prolec gains European Type Approval for Liftwatch Rail Tandem Lifting Application

Prolec Ltd, the Poole UK based manufacturer of electronic safety and productivity monitoring equipment for construction plant, has gained European type approval under the European machinery directive for their Liftwatch Rail Tandem Lifting Application. The increasing use of tandem lifting on railways has resulted in additional hazards being introduced to rail maintenance operations. The most significant being the potential of machines that have been motion cut due to overload by their rated capacity controller, being pulled over by their partner machine. Tandem Lift is an optional application on Liftwatch Rail combining the safety systems on the two machines so that they work in concert with each other to increase safety. This is achieved by a secure data link between the two systems that conveys the overall system status and ensures that motion cuts are safely invoked on both machines. According to engineering director Tony Adams, the add-on to Prolec’s Liftwatch Rail system underwent the type approval assessment that resulted in certification for the product as of September 2011.
