A ROYAL HONOUR: CHEANEY CELEBRATE THEIR QUEEN'S AWARD WIN!
We are thrilled to announce that PrimaNet customer Joseph Cheaney has been honoured with one of the highest awards for British business – The Queen’s Award for International Trade! This presents a great accolade as the award is a recognition of Cheaney’s quality and well-designed British handcrafted footwear, not only by the Queen’s Award panel of judges but also many loyal customers from around the world. Most of the company’s growth has been in the past six years after a management buyout by cousins Jonathan and William Church, fifth generation shoemakers. Since the buyout in 2009, Cheaney’s turnover has more than doubled from £4m to £9.6m, while exports have tripled and now account for nearly a third of the company’s turnover. Also since the buyout, Cheaney has opened six new stores to promote the brand to consumers as well as a popup store in Bicester Village. What is more, the company launched a new ecommerce site at the end of 2015, with exports now accounting for nearly half of online sales in what is a truly multichannel operation, with PrimaNet applications helping to control their business. What has remained fundamental to Joseph Cheaney throughout is the brand’s rich manufacturing heritage, handcrafting each and every pair of shoes in their Desborough factory since 1886. Based in Northamptonshire, the county is synonymous with shoemaking and Cheaney’s highly skilled workforce remains central to their production processes. With footwear ranges developing considerably, Cheaney can sell across many different markets to attract a wider audience. The company has also entered into several dual branding collaborations with quintessentially British fashion brands including Barbour, All Saints and Superdry. William Church, Joint Managing Director of Cheaney commented “Our vision for the future is to grow and develop the brand, by making the most of the huge, innate skill potential that lies within the business. Increasing our exports in new and existing markets and extending our retail portfolio will be our key strategies for the growth of Cheaney. Above all we will continue our commitment to producing the finest footwear, entirely made in England.” Stephen Belcher, Joint Managing Director of Prima Solutions added “We are delighted to see Joseph Cheaney receive this prestigious award, which is a highly deserved recognition of their commitment to producing high quality British handcrafted footwear. We are also immensely proud to have played a significant part in the success of their business as their software solutions partner and look forward to helping them succeed further into the future”.
