Power Jacks screw jacks are at the heart of the production process for some of the latest wind turbine blades.
Large wind turbine blades with lengths of around 70m can be built in modular sections for improved manufacturing, better handling, reduced transportation costs and ease of assembly at site. Just the tips of these blades can be 18m in length and are high performance precision parts with critical features that affect the whole wind turbines performance.
For one such modular wind turbine design Norco GRP Ltd developed the 18m blade tip mould. During prototype manufacture of the 18m blade tips the moulds were moved using overhead cranes and restraints to man handle the two halves of the mould as the blade tip was assembled and cured in ovens at temperatures around 120°C.
When Norco came to automate the blade tip manufacture for mass production purposes they looked to Power Jacks for the required linear motion solution that would help them achieve:
Lower Production Times
Improved Accuracy
Superior Repeatability
Higher Safety Levels
Better Reliability
