RHYL LEARNING COMMUNITY SCHOOL TRIATHLON
The Rhyl Learning Community of 8 Schools join together with local businesses to take on a Charity Triathlon for the second year. Eight schools from Rhyl took part in the Rhyl Learning Community Triathlon which saw 32 primary school children competing. The 24 teachers also took part in their own ‘fun’ triathlon. Each of the schools have taken part in their own triathlons throughout the week, leading up to the event. All the school children were encouraged to get involved and take part in the activity and charity fundraising. Finalists from each of the eight schools were then chosen to represent their school at the finals at the Marine Lake on 24th September. This was the second year that the Rhyl Learning Community Triathlon has taken place, following the success of 2014 Triathlon when seven schools took part. The schools are raising money to support P&A’s and Boyns.net Ironman fundraising efforts for their respective chosen charities, Alzheimer’s Society and The Nepal Rivers Conservation Trust. The Triathlon event was supported by P&A Group and Boyns.net. The two local companies donated medals, trophies and prizes for the most inspiring success story as well as the prize for the overall winning school. The now triple Ironmen were there on the day sharing their enthusiasm for sport and fitness as well as some useful tips and encouragement for the school children. This unique event is the culmination of a successful partnership between many public, private and voluntary organisations. They include The Rhyl Learning Community, P&A Group, Boyns.net, Denbighshire County Council, The Sea Cadets, RNLI, Aqua Adventure Wetsuits, Sainsbury’s, Welsh Triathlon, Colwyn Bay Triathlon Club, The Police Cadets, St. John’s Ambulance and Rhyl Miniature Railway. Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser in North Wales, Ruth Owen commented: “As recipients of the generous support provided by our corporate supporters P&A Group, we are delighted to be involved in this exciting event. The pupils and staff who took part in the triathlon in such windy conditions did a fantastic job and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they broke through their pain barriers. We are truly grateful for the support of Rhyl school pupils and staff and P&A Group. Their support is helping us to support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow. We rely on voluntary donations to continue our vital work.”
