Fire Extinguisher Servicing Risk Assessments
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 Date: 8th JULY 2009 Client: All clients where fire extinguishers are installed. Location: At the premises of clients throughout the United Kingdom. Specific Activity: The assessment looks at potential risks to employees and others relating to the servicing of Portable Fire Extinguishers. Assessment Review: In 3 years or in the event of a change in the nature of the task. Significant potential hazard Persons at risk and level of risk Controls in place to reduce risk of injury, comment and observations Lack of experience, information or training Employees and others - Low Risk Work is undertaken by FETA/BAFE trained Technicians. Health and safety information is available at the Derby HQ. Lack of supervision or instruction Employees and others - Low Risk Work is supervised and audited. An Engineer’s File and Health and Safety Manual is carried in each vehicle. No defined methods of work Employees and others - Medium Risk All work is undertaken in accordance with BS 5306-3-2009 Maintenance of portable fire extinguishers - Code of practice, and health and safety arrangements. A gas refilling system is installed on vehicles. Travelling/access issues Employees and others - Low Risk All Technicians are qualified drivers using properly maintained vehicles. Hi- vis vest is carried and a First Aid kit. On arrival Technicians report / sign in and receive any local safety briefing. Manual handling - use of poor techniques Employees and others - Low Risk Technicians are trained in safe handling techniques. Safety footwear and workwear is worn. Contact with Chemicals Employees and others - Low Risk Discharge work is done outside. Dust masks and goggles are available. Dry waste is contained. Extremes of weather Employees and others - Low Risk A waterproof thermal jacket is provided to all Technicians. Summary of Risk Assessment No further action is required.
