NUS Consulting Group was started in 1933 by Theodore Maynard. His concept was simple. Since no law needed a utility company to place customers on the most cost effective rate, energy intensive businesses needed someone to help them in analyzing and optimizing the available tariff options. Over the next four decades, NUS grew to become the preeminent energy rate and tariff analysis specialist firm in the US, offering services to some of the largest and most well-known companies, including John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company. As the company expanded, it became clear the services NUS was delivering in the US were also valuable to businesses abroad. Starting in 1964, NUS started opening offices and providing services outside of North America. Over the next ten years NUS opened international offices in Europe, Africa and Australia.
