Southampton Social Seating

Working with artist Sarah Filmer we manufactured picnic tables and benches from our 'Southampton' range for a new social space on the old Ford Motors factory site in Southampton. The space invites people to socialise, either for intimate chats on the smaller benches, large groups gathering round the picnic table or playing games on the fixed chequer board. On the benches and table top visitors will see signatures of Ford workers engraved into the wood as a reminder of one use of the site, with the chequer board harking back to a time when there were children refugees from the Spanish Civil War. Manufactured with exposed aggregate concrete legs cemented into place, the hardwood slats were engraved with the workers signatures using our CNC machines.
