DMF Free Gloves
DMF? What is that and why should I care? DMF, also known as Dimethylformamide is a chemical solvent used to make the coating on many gloves. DMF has been linked to cancer in humans, and it is thought to cause birth defects. In some sectors of industry women are banned from working with DMF. So why are we still using it? Well, the EPA does not consider it a cancer risk and are quite relaxed about it being a component in our hand protection. Although there have been hundreds of cases in Europe where users have had severe allergic reactions if DMF is penetrated into the skin. Luckily, us here at Microlin Cooper have identified it as a risk, particularly as the EU have banned manufacturers from making it (but it can still be imported). So we have come out with two gloves that have a water-based PU coating instead of DMF. This is the 'Tek 1002' and 'Protecta Plus 2'. Both gloves are cut resistant levels 4 and 5 respectively, and are resistant to water and oils. Give us a call on 01442 248 797 to request a sample!
