ACHEMA - Moisture Control and Measurement
MCM, Moisture Control and Measurement, will be exhibiting at ACHEMA from the 15-19 May a technology approach which it claims, traditional technologies, using Aluminium oxide or ceramic sensors are unable to offer - namely traceable moisture data on analyses taken at variable operating temperatures. The increasing call for traceability to ISO9000 and adherence to laboratory practices such as 17025 is exposing the weakness in traceability of many manufacturers moisture measuring equipment. Reference to Internationally recognised standards and the need for localised validations to be performed quickly and accurately calls for suppliers to provide equipment which meets the basic needs of good Quality Control namely that quick, stable and reliable data is collected every time, irrespective of location or ambient temperature conditions. On careful inspection it is clear that very few suppliers address this fundamental issue of traceability. MCM technology addresses these requirements in 3 ways. By using patented ultra thin silicon on chip moisture sensors MCM have achieved an unrivalled speed of response due to the sensors small volume and elevated operating temperature. Typical response time from ambient wet to less than 1 ppmV is within 2 minutes to a stable reading, making the MCM the fastest responding analyser on the market today! Secondly, the MCM sensor utilises temperature control, operating at 45C, to ensure measurement stability when measuring in variable sample temperatures – a feature unique to MCM that ensures laboratory accuracy can be transferred into the plant without compromise and ensures TRACEABILITY. All non temperature controlled moisture sensing technologies prevalent in Industry today, such as aluminium oxide or ceramic sensors, give different readings at different temperatures, typically showing a 4% per degree temperature coefficient. This translates into large biased errors when measuring in extreme climates where the operating temperature can be very different from the temperature of calibration. The lack of temperature control means that calibration data cannot be related to the point of use making the calibration audit trail meaningless. These measurement uncertainties can be entirely eliminated with temperature control. A large part of measurement uncertainty is due to hysteresis, particularly when one analyser is used to validate another. MCM sensors can be rapidly heated to eliminate any hysteresis effects, reduce contamination effects and aid dry down following a wet excursion. This feature is another patented technology unique to MCM which dramatically improves responsiveness and repeatability, another cornerstone of reliable measurement by ensuring that each measurement is approached from the same dry starting point, every time. The overall combination of fast response, stable performance and low drift results in fast and accurate data collection. The result- improved productivity and enhanced quality control! The latest ATEX range includes the Microview ATEX portable hygrometer which can record 100 measurements in its on board data logger and can display results in a graphical form. The Microview Compact transmitter, a self controlling plant monitor, is designed to expand up into a self zeroing system, if required, without the need for additional external communications, a design which reduces installation costs significantly. Both instruments are ideal for use in hazardous areas and will be fully working during the exhibition. MCM will be challenging visitors to try and win an MCM hygrometer everyday during ACHEMA. Further details can be found on the website. MCM is an established UK supplier, have been providing fast responding moisture measuring instrumentation and calibration services since their foundation in 1968.
