Mana Education Helps BIS with Solution for AWR

Local Teaching Agency is a Big Help with New AWR Regulations A local Teaching Supply Agency, Mana Education, has been at the heart of tackling a wider problem regarding new legislation called the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), which are being implemented in the UK in October. The new legislation is designed to protect agency workers from being mistreated, and to give them equal working rights to permanent employees in the same role, after a 12 week qualifying period as a temporary worker. The Department of Business, Innovation, and Skills (BIS), have drawn upon the skill and knowledge of industry experts Mana Education, to assist in solving issues with integrating the AWR into the Supply Teaching sector. Mana Education highlighted an issue with the legislation in its current format, and would price qualified and experienced Teachers out of day-to-day supply of Teachers to schools. As a result of a meeting and subsequent discussions between Mana and BIS, general supply assignments will now be paid to the Cover Supervisor pay scale, providing lesson planning is not required. For assignments where lesson planning is required, it has to be completed by a qualified Teacher, and therefore the pay will be according to their individual pay scale. BIS commented, "Mana Educationhasbeen a very useful partner throughout the consultation period. We have done our best to take on board the views of all industry constituents and our on-going discussions with Mana Educationand others throughout this process has been a very important part of that process."
