Using Bark Chippings for Easier Garden Care

Bark chippings can make planted areas look finished while reducing some of the repetitive work involved in garden maintenance. Spread over bare soil, they create a defined surface around shrubs, trees and borders and can help slow moisture loss during dry periods.

A useful bark layer also blocks some light from reaching the soil, which can reduce weed germination.

Because bark is an organic material, it gradually breaks down and becomes part of the soil.
