Sustainable drainage systems manage rainfall closer to where it lands instead of sending every drop immediately into conventional drains. Permeable construction layers are a key part of that approach because they temporarily store and move water through the pavement build-up.
Open-graded aggregates contain fewer fine particles, leaving interconnected voids through which water can pass.
The exact grading and depth should follow the paving or SuDS design being installed.
