Top safety award for Lorien
Global engineering design and project management firm Lorien Engineering Solutions has been recognised for continuous achievement at the highest level at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Awards - for the 26th year running. For the second year in succession, Burton on Trent-based Lorien has been presented with RoSPA’s highly coveted Patron’s Award, as well as collecting its second Silver Award for the Management Of Road Risk (MORR). Lorien Engineering Solutions, a division of GP Strategies Corporation, specialises in capital projects for food, brewing, drinks, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and safety compliance. Lorien’s health and safety manager Elliot Follows received the award at the RoSPA gala dinner at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 4 July. Elliot said: “We are immensely proud to have been awarded a Patron’s Award for the second year in succession as it places Lorien in an elite club. This type of achievement is more than just filling in an application. It’s about recognition of a 365-day attention to the safety requirements of our projects, clients, staff and contractors, and ensuring we are always striving to be ‘better’.” The RoSPA Awards scheme is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. Now in their 62nd year, the awards recognise achievement in health and safety management systems including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year. The awards enable organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.” Bill Treddenick, operations and compliance director at Lorien, added: “We’ve learned that good performance takes a great deal of dedication, continuous development of tools and of people, and not avoiding tough conversations where they are warranted. Elliot and his health and safety team at Lorien are dedicated to their work, well respected by colleagues, clients and contractors alike, and are very much deserving of this recognition.” RoSPA’s awards mark achievement at merit, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Gold medals, President’s Awards and Orders of Distinction are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years. Introduced last year, the Patron’s Award is conferred on organisations that have achieved consecutive gold awards for 25 years or more. Lorien’s health and safety certifications and accreditations include BS OHSAS 18001, SafeContractor, Altius, BROWZ and EcoVadis, as well as being corporate supporters of RoSPA and The British Safety Council.
