21st Gold Award from RoSPA
Lorien Engineering Solutions is celebrating achieving its 21st RoSPA Gold Award, and 7th Order of Distinction Award, recognising its continued commitment to workplace safety. Representatives from the Staffordshire-based engineering and project management firm will attend a ceremony in Birmingham in May where they will be presented with the awards, which recognise a consistently high performance in Occupational Health & Safety in Construction. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), a safety charity, launched its awards programme 57 years ago. The scheme looks not only at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement. Operations director Bill Treddenick said: “As this is the 21st year we have achieved the ‘Gold’ standard with RoSPA, the award means a lot to the people within our business. It demonstrates both the consistency in our performance, as well as our drive for continuous improvement. The award not only recognises a company’s health and safety record, but also how the business is developing its systems and people. “We’re also very fortunate to work with clients who take safety seriously. They understand the need for competence, and present us with interesting and challenging projects. More than ever, our clients are looking very seriously into the competencies of companies to take on duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, and as a consequence of this our work in CDM coordinator and principal contractor roles on projects is increasing. We are also fortunate to have such a committed and talented group of people working within the Lorien business, who continue to push the bar ever higher.” The specialist skills provided by Lorien in other areas of safety such as CE-Marking and PUWER reviews of production equipment, DSEAR/ ATEX assessment of potential explosive atmospheres, and HAZOP of process plants, are also growing in demand. In this manner, Lorien offers its clients a one-stop shop when it comes to engineering-in safety best practice during capital investment projects.. RoSPA awards manager David Rawlins said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Lorien Engineering Solutions has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.” Health & Safety Advisor Brian Youl will be collecting the award on behalf of Lorien on 15th May 2013, at the Hilton hotel at the NEC, Birmingham.
