Recently, our team of label geeks spent several hours debating whether Canva’s AI designer could really cut the mustard and produce a professional-looking label for small business owners. The debate raged with an intensity not seen since the Great Doughnut Debate of 2023 — and honestly, who does believe custard beats jam?!

Without diving back into the whole raspberry vs. strawberry situation (let’s be honest, everything is better with lemon), we decided to put the theory to the test:

Can you really use AI to design a professional label for your small business?

Our tool of choice was Canva's AI label design feature. It’s hugely popular, even among those new to AI, and at first glance, it looked pretty straightforward to use. Most of us spend our days in Adobe Creative Cloud, so this was a bit of a shift — but to Canva’s credit, the interface is clean, intuitive, and super beginner-friendly.

We started by logging in and selecting the AI image generator. When prompted to describe what we wanted, there was the usual flurry of ideas about who the label should be for. In the end, we went with something fruity: a label for a mango smoothie bar.

After a few prompt tweaks, we landed on:

“Please design us a circular label for our mango smoothie bar called Where The Man-Goes.”

And wow… the results were seriously impressive.
