Disability Grants: What you need to Know
It can be challenging in financial terms if you’re a disabled person, or if you care for a family member or friend who has a disability. Everyone needs a little help sometimes – but many people may not be aware of the grants that are available if the going gets tough. Receiving extra support is important in terms of maintaining the best quality of life for a disabled person and for their family members or carer. Charities can provide help and advice for families who need assistance, pointing people in the right direction in terms of claiming the financial aid to which you’re entitled. There are numerous options to apply for funding for equipment for your disabled child and as a family. Plenty of charities accept applications and have various different criteria in terms of eligibility, so it’s worth checking with the individual charity for more information. It’s advisable to call the organisation and have an informal chat, before filling in a lengthy application form, to gain some idea of the criteria and your chances of being accepted. Disability grants are available to purchase items such as specialist beds, providing safe sleeping solutions for disabled people. Read on for more details of some of the charities that may be able to help with disability grants for this purpose… Newlife The disabled children’s charity Newlife funds essential equipment including beds, wheelchairs, buggies, seating and more. The equipment grants are aimed at reducing a child’s risk of significant injury and pain, improving their health, giving them more independence and enhancing their childhood experiences. People interested in applying for a grant to help their disabled child should call Newlife’s care services team for information on the eligibility criteria – then complete an application form and submit it with a supplier’s quote. Children Today The charity Children Today offers grants to fund a piece of specialised equipment. As part of the qualifying criteria, applicants need to provide a medical reference from a person who works with their child in a professional capacity, detailing how the equipment, such as a special bed, will benefit the child. A quotation from the supplier is also required. Action for Children Children whose lives have been impacted by domestic abuse situations are helped by the charity Action for Children.
