Three Names, One Standard
If you have been working in health and safety for any length of time, you will have come across the names Tyvek, Tychem, and Proshield. They are Du-Pont brands, and they have earned a reputation as the benchmark for disposable chemical protective clothing worldwide. Helman Group has been supplying all three ranges to UK industries for over 25 years.
Tyvek: The Everyday Workhorse
Tyvek is the most widely used of the three. Made from flash-spun polyethylene fibres, it offers solid protection against dry particles, light chemical splashes, and general contamination. It is lightweight, breathable for a protective fabric, and cost-effective enough for regular use across large workforces. Construction sites, manufacturing floors, and paint shops rely on it daily.
Tychem: For Serious Chemical Hazards
When the risk level goes up, Tychem steps in. Tychem coveralls are built for environments where exposure to hazardous liquids, gases, and toxic substances is a genuine possibility. The multi-layer barrier fabric provides a significantly higher level of chemical resistance than standard Tyvek, making it the choice for chemical plants, pharmaceutical facilities, and emergency response teams.
Proshield: The Middle Ground
Proshield sits between Tyvek and Tychem, offering enhanced protection without the full-scale spec of Tychem. It is a popular choice for situations where the hazard is more than a light splash but full liquid-tight protection is not needed. Many safety managers keep Proshield in stock as their go-to for moderate-risk tasks.
