Natural History Museum
Glazing Refurbishment have just completed a further phase of their ongoing glass replacement program at London’s prestigious Natural History Museum. As part of our long term relationship with the museum we are currently undertaking a refurbishment program of the existing Georgian wire glass housed within the Earth Gallery. The programme involves removal of Georgian wire glass which is then replaced with 9.5mm toughened/laminated glass complete with pre-installed silver reflective solar control film. In order to minimize disruption to our client and most importantly the thousands of daily visitors to the Museum the works are conducted in the early morning, with all internal hoardings and safety barriers being removed prior to gallery open times. To facilitate safe overhead working we installed and maintained our custom designed and fabricated lightweight aluminium boardwalk access systems. To overcome the multi-facetted atrium, specialist pivot hinges were manufactured that allowed our high level specialist’s access to all areas of the roof light. To ensure absolute safety of our operatives we used Integral safety latch lines in conjunction with a secondary sliding inertia line to allow freedom of movement. A well established method, fully supported by bespoke RAMS ensures The Natural History Museum benefits like many other prominent national institutions with the highest level of specialist glazing services.
