Project Overview
Gibbons Engineering Group was appointed to carry out preparatory works at Grange Farm ahead of a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) module upgrade. The project involved the safe removal of redundant drive equipment, associated electrical components, and site preparation to allow installation of the new modules.
Scope of Works
As part of the upgrade works, the existing LCL, ISU and INU modules were removed, along with all associated busbars and metalwork connected to the redundant drive system.
Additional removal works included:
- Removal of fan feeds associated with the previous INU modules
- Removal of redundant fibre optic cables
- Removal of external 24V power supplies
Following removal of the old equipment, the existing cabinets were thoroughly cleaned and prepared ready for the installation of the new modules and associated components.
Project Progress
A new keypad and cover plate were installed as part of the preparation works, with the replacement modules and required parts safely stored on site ready for the next stage of the project.
Photographs were taken throughout the works to support future planning and review. Updated drawings provided by the customer were also incorporated into the project planning process to ensure the next visit can be completed efficiently.
Site Management & Handover
All removed waste materials were cleared from site, and the work area was left clean, tidy, and in the same condition as found on arrival.
The customer requested that the removed modules remain on site, and these were safely retained as instructed.
A review of the planned follow-up visit was recommended following the information gathered during the works, with the customer kept informed regarding any potential changes to the schedule.
Outcome
The preparatory works at Grange Farm were completed successfully, creating a clean and organised installation environment ready for the next phase of the VSD upgrade. Through careful removal of redundant equipment, detailed site assessment, and effective communication with NWL, Gibbons Engineering Group has helped ensure a smooth transition towards the new drive system installation.
