Coating thickness measurement inside hollow car body parts
Anti-rust warranty has become an important hallmark of car quality, particularly in hard to reach areas such as the cross beams and pillars of the steel car body where corrosion can develop undetected. Common practice has been to dismantle random car bodies for spot checking hidden areas, a high cost as well as inefficient approach. Fischer has developed the ‘cavity probe’ which, due to its design, can be inserted into almost any opening in cross beams or pillars for non-destructive measurement of CDP coating thickness – on the inside. The cavity probe is best used with the FMP series of hand held instruments which are equipped with a USB port, making evaluation on a computer with the Fischer Data Centre very easy.
