Vulcathene proves its place in 21st Century
Vulcathene chemical drainage has been integral in the construction of a new £30m education facility in Flintshire, as part of the Welsh Government’s ‘21st Century Schools Programme’. The new Holywell Learning Campus will see one primary school constructed, to replace three existing schools, alongside a new high school co-located on the same site. The purpose-designed state-of-the-art buildings will facilitate the learning of near 1,000 pupils when they open for the new academic year in 2016. The first floor of the three storey high school building houses 10 science laboratories and M&E contractors, Walsh Integrated Building Services, required a reliable chemical drainage system for use throughout the laboratories. Walsh Integrated Building Services selected the complete Vulcathene system, including pipework, fittings, waste and bottle traps, due to the system’s proven track record in education environments. Due to the location of the laboratories on the first floor, the chemical drainage system needed to continue throughout the ground floor classrooms to eliminate the risk of any blockages causing back flow in the system As a result, Vulcathene Enfusion up to 4” was installed for the stacks, while all of the run outs were fitted with Vulcathene Mechanical, with the system carrying chemical waste from the sinks in each laboratory to the building’s main drainage system for disposal off site. Commenting on the project, Lee Macnab, senior contracts manager at Walsh Building Services, said: “As with any school project, safety is a number one priority and so it was crucial we were installing a reliable chemical drainage system. We have used Vulcathene on previous projects and, with a proven track record for laboratory drainage within education environments, it was the ideal solution.” Safety is the number one priority within educational facilities and because experiments in science laboratories often lead to unknown combinations of chemicals being created, it is imperative that the drainage system can safely transport any chemical concoctions. Vulcathene offers educational establishments the reassurance that it has a proven pedigree over many decades in dealing with all manner of chemical waste cocktails from laboratories across the world. Available in sizes from 38mm – 152mm, Vulcathene is a purpose designed chemical drainage system available in two easy jointing methods; Mechanical for demountable joints and Enfusion for welded joints, offering complete flexibility for designers and installers of chemical waste systems.
