CNM GIVE BACK DURING PANDEMIC!! CNM GIVE BACK DURING PANDEMIC! The Rainbow Range that has supported the ACT Mara Safe House. https://www.leeds.anglican.org/news/diocesan-supported-tanzanian-project-looks-new-support During the pandemic CNM Online decided to give something back! We wanted to make a positive out of a negative and spread some happiness during such an uncertain and testing time. Using the demand for soap dispensers, we decided to donate a percentage of our Rainbow Range sales to the ACT Mara Safe House in Tanzania, via the Diocese of Leeds. What the Charity provides? Our chosen charity fights against Female Genital Mutilation, a procedure performed upon girls usually between infancy and the age of 15 years old. In many tribal cultures in Tanzania FGM is a traditional ceremony that takes place in festering, unhygienic homes and buildings to preserve girls “purity”. Although the practice was made illegal in 2009, in Mara it is estimated that 32% of women aged 15 to 49 have undergone the gruesome procedure. The ACT Mara Safe House takes in these girls forced to flee their homes for fear of FGM. With out the Safe House these girls may have lost their lives living on the streets or have been forced back to under go the devestating operation. They also take in the forgotten infants and babies left on the streets, could you imagine your own children being faced with this malevolent fate? Many families send their children to work, which is usually hard labour for very little money, rather than sending them to school to support their family. Also only 19% of births in Tanzania are registered, meaning that the majority of street-connected children lack access to social security and public services, making it even harder to support this hidden population. The current infant mortality rate for Tanzania in 2020 is 38.391 deaths per 1000 live births compared to the UK which is 3.593 deaths per 1000 live births. With out Safe Houses this percentage would be much higher which is why it is so important that we help these charities through donations. The ‘Safe House’ provides food, shelter, access to education and most importantly a home. Members also give talks about the ‘Safe House’ and encourage fundraising activities togenerate awareness and donations to buy medicines, clothes, food, school supplies and to cover staff wages.
