Ideal for use in: General Offices, Large Domestic, Halls, Marquees, Commercial Cooling Range: Not establish able due to varying conditions These 'Coolers' or 'Swampies' as they are called in Australia operate by drawing room air through a wetted filter pad (The pad is normally made of a natural Aspen type wood or straw material). The general idea is that as the hot dry air enters the wetted pad it draws moisture away from the wetted surface, in doing this the humidity increases but the temperature drops. They are very effective in hot dry climates, but they tend to be fairly mediocre in the UK. They are great for bigger areas, factories and Marquees etc. A constant topping up of the water tank is required, the warmer it is the more often you have to fill it. A simple, effective, cheap method of providing some conditioned air to larger areas. The energy required to operate the fan/pump is all that is required so approx. 200 watts.
