Chell Instruments Make Connection Break-Through
World-renowned gas measurement specialists Chell Instruments, have unveiled a new aluminium pneumatic connector which will create instant time and money savings within innovative industries. This unique and innovative connector, connects and disconnects pneumatic lines/pipes easily and hassle-free. Chell Instruments initially created this versatile connector to meet stringent aerospace environmental requirements and speed up system installation and reconfiguration. “It seemed natural to create a lightweight aluminium quick disconnector after the popularity of the stainless-steel Quick Disconnect (SQDC) version.” Comments Nick Broadley, Managing Director at Chell Instruments. “The SQDC version was designed after visiting a leading aircraft engine manufacturer and discovering that during the testing process, when they wanted to dismantle an engine, all the piping (potentially 300 pipes or so) had to be cut off and replaced.” Designed for a range of applications, across industries, the Aluminium Quick Disconnects (AQDC) can be used in harsh environments at working temperatures of up to 200°C. This adaptable, pioneering connector, along with its stainless-steel counterpart, has revolutionised the testing of R&D aero engines. Chell’s original Quick Disconnect system was manufactured in steel to withstand the high temperatures test equipment can be subjected to. The latest development sees the fast-couplings now made in weight-saving aluminium whilst still able to handle temperatures up to 200°C. Variations can connect between 8 and 32 gas lines, whilst a unique locking mechanism resists vibration. “This is another important innovation for Chell and our customers” says Nick. “It’s amazing the technology our equipment is used to test, so we need to be just as focused on improving what we do and finding ever-smarter solutions”. North Walsham-based Chell Instruments have been providing pressure, vacuum and gas flow measurement equipment for over 40 years. They design, manufacture and calibrate testing apparatus used in areas including Formula One, aircraft design and pharmaceuticals. “We’re very proud of the products our Norfolk-based team produce” concludes Nick. “Our customers often lead their industries and accuracy is everything. As our instruments are designed by engineers for engineers, they know they're getting the performance and measurements they need.”
