Changeworks Recycling wins prestigious award for partnership with Essential Edinburgh

The success of Changeworks Recycling’s project with Essential Edinburgh was celebrated last week at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce’s annual business awards. Our partnership bagged the much coveted award for Sustainable Development in a category with a very strong shortlist of nominees ; Central Taxis, First Scotland East, Lothian Buses, Sandemans and Fairmont St Andrews. The unique and innovative partnership between Essential Edinburgh and Changeworks Recycling has had a wide reaching impact on the sustainability of businesses and the community within Edinburgh’s City Centre. A combination of bespoke service design, efficient collection schedules, resource efficiency and preferential rates save levy payers an estimated 25% on their waste management costs annually when compared to the market rate. The partnership has enabled 34% of businesses in the BID area, across all market sectors, to reduce their waste output and have diverted 1809 tonnes of waste from landfill, diverting 699 tonnes of carbon dioxide, helping to create a healthier, cleaner city.
