Brandauer: Apprentice Development and Future Skills Needs
In December Brandauer hosted a visit from 13 Apprentices of the Jaguar- Land Rover Apprenticeship Expansion Program. The program, supported by the National Skills Academy and accredited by Semta aims to give young people one year of training in engineering and then place the trainees into SMEs in the local area. The 13 trainees are all currently studying at Warwick College. Brandauer were amongst the first SMEs to host a visit to give the young trainees an insight into what Brandauer can offer as an employer. The visit included presentations by David Spears, MD and David Barry, Human Resources manager. The Visitors were also given a guided tour of the business by two current Brandauer apprentices. David Barry said, “Brandauer take up to two apprentices per year as part of it’s programme of business development. The future development of the Brandauer skill base is critical to the success of our business. We provide innovative bespoke technical solutions to our customers which demands an exceptionally high skill base. Without young trainees Brandauer would find it difficult to meet its future skills requirements.” The visit was received well by the attendees who were impressed by the level of technology and skills utilized at Brandauer. If first impressions last then Brandauer will be expecting enquiries for apprenticeship places early in 2010.
