Roller shutters in shipping containers are a popular option for storage units. They can be used in addition to, or in place of the original doors. Shutters, especially electrically operated ones, are easy to use and look very smart.
They are also popular with customers who are limited on space and cannot have the original doors opening up and taking up space.
This particular unit was for an events customer needing extra storage space. To keep the contents safe from water damage, we also lined and insulated the unit.
40ft One Trip Shipping Container for Storage
Needing a lot more storage space, our customer opted for a 40ft shipping container. The most common height for 40ft containers is now high cube (9’6 high), and as theses are more common, they are generally more cost-effective than a standard height unit and have the added bonus of an extra foot of head room.
A high cube shipping container was ideal for this events customer, as they could easily store larger items and maximise storage space.
As the customer wanted something that would last a long time and look smart, they opted for a one trip container. These are as close to new as you can get in the UK and will be in near perfect condition. They look much smarter than a used container, and will last a much longer time with minimal maintenance.
8ft Electric Roller Shutter in a Container
For this customer, to make the most of their storage space, they opted to remove the cargo doors from the end of the container and reposition on the side. Where the doors had been, we fitted an 8ft electric roller shutter.
As standard, our roller shutters are galvanised steel. However, if you would like the shutter to blend into the container, or contrast it, we can also powder coat the shutter on request. This customer was just after something smart and functional, so opted to keep the galvanised finish to keep the costs down.
Generally, our roller shutters operate on a key turn system to open and close. However, this customer opted to add a keypad for the roller shutter for extra security.
Premium Repaint in Anthracite Grey
This customer wanted a dark grey shipping container. While some units come in this colour they are not the most common. At the time of the order, we did not have any grey units in stock, so we repainted.
A premium repaint is generally the best option for a one trip container. It includes masking off door seals and locking bars. It gives a much smarter, cleaner finish than a more basic unmasked respray.
Ply Lining and Insulation for a Shipping Container
As the customer was going to be storing a variety of items inside, some of which could be damaged by moisture they wanted to protect from condensation. For this, we added mineral wool insulation and lined the inside of the container with ply wood.
The insulation helps to keep the heat inside the container from escaping quickly. This in turn prevents condensation from building up inside of the container. While the lining gives a tidy internal finish.
The ply lining is also good for storage units that will have heavy equipment in and out. The lining is relatively heavy duty so will last when being bashed about by heavier items inside.
