Presenting Boosters 2020 Charity Partner of the Year! Cornwall Hospice Care Boosters are proud to announce that we will be supporting Cornwall Hospice Care for the year of 2020, a charity close to our hearts that produces outstanding care and support for families around Cornwall for people living with terminal illness. With so many great local causes, picking just one to support is always a difficult decision, however with the charity celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year they were the standout choice and we are delighted to be able to help showcase the amazing work all of the staff and volunteers do throughout this year and every year. We are looking forward to watching the hospice charity celebrating their milestone in style by breaking records and making people smile and we can not wait to participate in some of the amazing events they have lined up for 2020. About Cornwall Hospice Care “Our vision is for all people living with terminal illness in Cornwall to be able to access the care and support they may need at the time and in the place that is right for them and their families” Cornwall Hospice Care runs two hospices; Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell first opened its doors to patients on the 6th of October 1980 thanks to Mrs Enid Dalton-White MBE who led the campaign to raise funds needed to provide the first ever hospice in Cornwall. Enid had nursed two husbands through cancer and was passionate about providing the right care. Her determined fundraising started when she opened her gardens in the village of Polruan, to the public. With her enormous commitment and dedication, she worked tirelessly to find the money. In 1986 the Sisters of the Daughters of the Cross were instrumental in the opening of four palliative care beds in the private wing of St Michaels Hospital in Hayle, by 1992 the project was extended to 7 beds and moved to the main hospital building. By 1999 they had seen the completion of a purpose-built hospice on the same site. The Sisters of the Daughters of the Cross, left St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle in 1999 and it was later signed over to Cornwall Hospice Care when the current charity formed in 2006. 40th Anniversary This year sees Cornwall Hospice Care’s 40th anniversary of delivering specialist care and support to terminally ill people in Cornwall.
