Nozzles For Liquid Smoke Application in Food Processing
This a specialist food processing application that uses a fine mist of spray to replace the smoke one would usually get from the smoking process. For this application very fine sprays are needed at low flow rates. The nozzles of choice would be air atomising nozzles from the XA range. In direct pressure nozzles the energy for the atomisation process comes from the potential energy of the fluid itself. The potential energy of the fluid is a function of pressure and thus flow rate. This means that the atomisation of low pressure/low flow rate fluids is limited. Air atomising nozzles overcome this by using a compressed air feed to break up the fluid. This means that even at exceptionally low flow rates a very fine fog of spray can be produced making them ideal for liquid smoke applications. The XA series of nozzle comes in a variety of different configurations. For liquid smoke applications a sensible choice would be the XApr which produces a full cone spray pattern, or the XAxw which produces a very large spray angle hollow cone pattern.
