LonWorks

LonWorks® is a networking protocol developed by the Echelon Corporation and is essentially a building and factory automation platform with typical applications covering energy management, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting control and security within offices and factories. LonWorks® covers a wide variety of industrial applications including clean room ventilation and exhaust systems, machine control, process monitoring and quality control systems, and waste water treatment systems.The increasing cost incentive to operate in an energy efficient working and living environment has pushed energy management systems to the fore and together with EIB the LonWorks® systems taking hold in many new commercial developments and have become established in many industrial management control systems, the big attraction for organisations is the ability to integrate several systems, for example meter reading and management; control and monitoring of the supply and disposal of water, liquids, air, gases and other raw materials; security and personnel safety measures ranging from escape routes to access control; technical building equipment including production labs and facilities, and the integration of varying systems and products onto a single network; remote control and monitoring of power settings; and integration of product and automation data over IP.Care should be taken to ensure that the selection of LonWorks® cable complies with local regulations and standards as a specification covering usage in one world region may not comply in another e.g UL/CSA approval may be required for the American market and may or may not be acceptable for use in Europe and conversely just because a cable is accepted as meeting European requirements it may not meet American national standards, this isn't necessarily a reflection on the standard of the cables but more a question of meeting local regulatory standards, if in doubt check with us.
