Arrowe Park Hospital in the Wirral recently unveiled The Retreat, a modern staff restaurant and wellbeing area designed by Day Architects. As part of the refurbishment, Be-Plas supplied hygienic wall cladding systems to meet the project’s demanding aesthetic and functional requirements.
Products and Applications
Two of Be-Plas’s premium products were selected for this project:
- Elite Inspiration: This hygienic PVC sheet, printed with a tile-effect finish, was used in the kitchen and restaurant areas. It delivered the appearance of traditional tiles while providing the seamless, low-maintenance surface essential for hygiene-critical environments.
- Elite Komadur Quintessential in Pastel Grey: Known for its durability and clean, modern look, this PVC sheet was also installed in the restaurant, complementing the contemporary design of the space.
Both materials, installed by JJS Walls & Flooring, were chosen for their hygienic properties, food safety compliance, and Class 1 fire rating.
Project Benefits
The refurbishment of The Retreat aimed to create a welcoming, functional space for hospital staff while adhering to strict health and safety standards. Be-Plas products provided several key benefits:
- Enhanced Hygiene and Food Safety
The seamless surfaces of Elite Inspiration and Elite Komadur eliminate the grout lines associated with traditional tiles, reducing opportunities for dirt and bacteria to accumulate. This ensures a safe environment for food preparation and dining. - Ease of Maintenance
Staff and facility managers benefit from easy-to-clean surfaces that maintain their appearance and functionality with minimal effort. - Aesthetic Versatility
The printed tile effect of Elite Inspiration delivers a sophisticated look without compromising on practicality. The pastel grey finish of Elite Komadur adds a calming, contemporary touch to the restaurant’s interiors. - Fire Safety Compliance
Both products are Class 1 fire-rated, meeting regulatory requirements and providing additional peace of mind for staff and visitors.
Creating a Space for Wellbeing
Partially funded through a joint appeal by WUTH Charity and the Wirral Globe, The Retreat is more than a dining area. It has been designed as a coffee shop-style eatery with breakout areas for staff to relax and recharge during their shifts.
The selection of Be-Plas products played a crucial role in achieving the project’s vision, combining modern design with functionality. Day Architects’ thoughtful approach to the space, coupled with Be-Plas’s expertise, has resulted in an inviting environment that supports the wellbeing of healthcare workers.
Customer Feedback

The Retreat exemplifies the type of space our staff deserve – functional, hygienic, and beautifully designed. The use of Be-Plas products ensured the highest standards of safety and aesthetics, contributing to a truly transformative facility.
