Small is Beautiful Pins and Needles The Eyes Have it! Fueling the Economy

Small is Beautiful We have always produced small and complex components to tight tolerances. We accomplish 10µ tolerances (overall) on all critical dimensions. Working on sliding-head lathes, from STAR Micronics, some of the smallest parts we have made to date have been just Ø0.5mm! We have manufactured items with Ø0.35mm holes and can produce both internal and external threads at M2. We can machine a variety of features and all of our lathes have the facility for cross-milling and cross-drilling. Some of our machines can produce angled holes and many can perform “off-centre” drilling. Pins and Needles Well…. to be a little more precise; bone screws. These items are nearly always manufactured in implant grade Titanium and we have produced a number of sizes for the orthopaedic market. We have experience in making many other special items for this sector and have made Introducers, Extractors, Suture Anchors, Burr Tip blanks, Drill blanks and numerous other components used in general and orthopaedic surgery. Along with Titanium; 400 series Stainless and 17-4PH Stainless are other materials specified in this area. We have also made very small parts in Platinum-Iridium for cardio-thoracic use. The Eyes Have it! A more recent area for us is making precision components for use in ophthalmics. Just as with orthopaedics and general surgery articles; we have applied the same disciplines and principles. Obviously, following a similar pattern, the components tend to be manufactured from Titanium but 400series stainless is also a material of choice. The very nature of eye surgery calls for the strictest of controls on surface finish and “breaking edges”. Thankfully, we have a great deal of experience in this ‘fine’ engineering and offer a number of options for final surface preparation and finish of your parts. Fueling the Economy Although the Oil & Gas industry has taken a hammering over the last few months, it is still obviously a very important one. We have been supporting companies in these industries for several years and have used our knowledge and expertise to provide precise components in Stainless Steel, specialty Steels, Inconel® and Titanium for pressure regulation, flow control, bulk storage, distribution and metering of various fuel types.
