Find The Needle Add My Company
YELLOW TO NATURAL HDPE USING POLY CLEAR HMEX
When Adrian Badia Davila, our Technical Sales for Spain met with the production manager of a new client to discuss their needs, he discovered that their key need was a purging agent that could enable them to carry out Colour Changes on their TECHNE blow moulding machine Cleaning the TECHNE machine was going to be a tough gig – a blow-moulding machine with 8 heads that produces bottles for milk, detergents or perfumes; lots of strong colours here. Also the channels inside the manifold and heads are difficult to clean and are partly why Colour Changes are so difficult to accomplish on multi-head machines. Typically this blow moulding machine could take 24 hours just to clear the colour and carbon from the machine. On the last occasion they tried to do a Colour Change for a 12,000 bottle production run and 3000 bottles were not useable. In addition to this every time they shut down and restarted the machine, they were finding black carbon specs in the bottles for up to 8 hours which meant they needed to maintain inspection levels of 100% for this period. Due to the common technical issues and history of unsuccessful results there is a high level of scepticism for using purging compounds amongst manufacturing companies in Spain particularly when you tell them: “Our purging agents work”. This can make it tricky for Adrian to persuade potential clients that Aquapurge’s products are worth trying out. But once he’s got an on-site captive audience our products do the talking! In this example, Adrian needed to remove a bright yellow High-density polyethylene (HDPE), the toothpaste-like stripe that you can see in the image below, and enable the machine to produce bottles with natural HDPE. This looked like a job for Poly Clear HMEX. Adrian explained: “Normally the manufacturer had used a large amount of virgin resin to go from yellow to natural and that it could take up to 24 hours with carbon evident, but I wasn’t sure of the carbon currently in the machine. As a rule of thumb Poly Clear HMEX requires 10% of the typical virgin quantity for a Colour Change but as we didn’t know how much virgin they had used or the extent of the carbon residue so I brought along plenty of Poly Clear HMEX to carry out such a big change” I knew that Poly Clear would remove the colour, but as the purge continued after the colour was removed big chunks of carbon were beginning to come out too (as you can see in the image below). This was a big surprise to me as well as the client!” This continued for 3 hours. of which at least 2 hours was removing carbon, but this made it possible for the manufacturer to start producing natural bottles. Previously it had taken them 24 hours just to remove the carbon, so Poly Clear HMEX had enabled a Colour Change and removed carbon too, 8 times quicker than before, after using 80kg of Poly Clear. Immediately after the test our new client took the rest of the Poly Clear that Adrian had bought along, shortly after that they made a significant order. Now, whenever they have any big, complicated Colour Changes they always use Poly Clear HMEX. WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY OUT POLY CLEAR HMEX? If you’d like to find out how Aquapurge products, including Poly Clear could assist the smooth running of your blow moulding machines and other manufacturing processes please get in touch. Poly Clear can be used in any type of blow moulding machinery. In this case study we applied our purging agent to an 8-parison TECHNE machine which enabled the manufacturer to switch easily between different colour materials and produce carbon free products saving a significant amount of time, money and materials. If you’re not sure about the benefits we’re only a phone or an email away.
