We’re excited to share the latest development: Sizewell C has signed a Programme Alliance Agreement with construction leaders Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics. Together, they form the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), tasked with delivering the main civil engineering contract for Suffolk’s new nuclear power station.
Key points:
The alliance will oversee all core civils works, including enabling and earthworks, marine structures, tunnelling, and infrastructure for both the Nuclear Island and Balance of Plant.
These three firms bring extensive expertise from their work on Hinkley Point C, helping to ensure that lessons learned are effectively applied to Sizewell C for a more efficient and innovative delivery.
Nigel Cann, Co-Managing Director of Sizewell C, noted that the partnership will not only improve productivity but will also leave a lasting legacy for the region. The project is expected to create 7,900 on-site roles at peak construction, with thousands more supported throughout the UK supply chain.
This milestone follows Centrica’s recent announcement of a 15% equity stake in the project and signals strong momentum. Sizewell C is not only being funded in the UK—it’s being built by British businesses to strengthen the country’s energy resilience and low-carbon future.
Why this matters:
– It demonstrates the UK’s capability to replicate and scale nuclear infrastructure delivery
– It supports local economies through job creation and SME involvement
– It advances the UK’s energy security and progress towards net zero targets
