AJAX TARGETS UK USERS WITH IDEAL MACHINING CENTRE SPECIFICATION FOR UNDER £50,000
A ready-to-run vertical machining centre package for under £50,000 from Ajax Machine Tools International is based on a capacity of 700 mm by 400 mm by 550 mm, (650 mm is a Z-axis option)a 17kW spindle delivering either 10,000 or 12,000 revs/min, a high speed 48 m/min rapid traverse and Heidenhain TNC 620 control. As part of the ready-to-run deal Ajax is also incorporating a starter tooling package. Ajax, which bought out the Semco machine tool operation some five years ago and worked with its machine tool builder for over 25 years, has enabled the UK supplier to influence an ‘ideal for UK’ specification on the latest AJV 700 vertical machining centre. As a result it combines high rigidity, in a compact 1.9 m by 2.2 m footprint, while providing the capability for high orders of spindle utilisation under the Heidenhain control system. In addition to help users, Ajax has added an installation package incorporating a starter set of tooling. The Ajax AJV 700 is built on heavy duty cast iron bed and column reflected in a net weight of some 3.7 tonne with high performance linear roller guides to support a rapid traverse rate of 48 m/min over the X-axis of 700 mm, Y-axis of 400 mm and the 550 mm (650 mm option) Z-axis strokes. Combined with a chip-to-chip time with the 24 tool magazine of 3.6 secs achievable over the full standard axis travels, high productivity and consistent performance is ensured. The direct drive 40 taper spindle is powered by a 17 kW motor and can be specified with speeds of 10,000 or 12,000 revs/min with the arm style tool changer able to achieve a1.6 sec tool-to-tool time. Tool sizes can be up to 80 mm diameter (150 mm with adjacent tool pockets left empty)and up to 250 mm in length weighing up to 2 kg. A spindle chiller and an oil skimmer is also built into the comprehensive machine specification. The importance to users of the incorporation of the Heidenhain TNC 620 contouring control is the provision of high orders of programming versatility for flexible workshop-orientated single component and series production. The control provides DIN/ISO program input through soft keys or via USB or RJ45 network interface. Program memory is 2GB. Fixed cycles are included for drilling, tapping, thread cutting, reaming and boring with additional cycles for linear and circular hole patterns, multi-pass milling of plane surfaces, rough and finishing of pockets, slots and studs. In order to facilitate extended uninterrupted efficiency in metal removal, full in-cycle wash down through two high pressure jets is included to aid the clearance of swarf into the spiral chip conveyor. A flat style chip conveyor is available as an option as well as through-the-spindle 20 bar coolant feed and mist collection. Also available as options are fourth and fifth axis tables and Fanuc Oi D control. Renishaw auto measuring, tool measurement and probing systems can also be supplied as options.
