Getting Scenty

Have you ever been going about your daily life, minding your own business when all of a sudden you smell a hint of something that instantly takes you back to another time and place, back to something you had let slip from your memory for years and years ? The smell of fresh doughnuts from the seaside, freshly washed bedding dried on the line and the smell of freshly cut grass are all scents that make us remember our wonderful childhoods. There is a scientific name for this occurrence, it’s called the Proustian moment. It can be a beautiful feeling to relive that long lost moment with images and even conversations playing in your head. Here at Ahi Nani, we carefully choose scents for our products that we can relate to in one way or another; the scent our loved ones wear, a reminder of a childhood holiday, the smells of flowers that grow in our gardens, our grandmothers baking or a holiday season. We only use soy wax with our candles, this gives a much cleaner none scented burn than traditional waxes. We are also proud to say that all of our candles are vegan! According to research, the smell of freshly baked bread, bacon cooking, freshly cut grass and coffee rank highest in the nation’s top 50 scents, while not surprisingly the smell of bins, drains and body odour rank in the top worst smells. Everyone wants their home to smell nice and to be surrounded by clean, cosy fragrances, but everyone’s opinion on what is the best is as unique as they are. Some like floral scents, some fruity while other like a more musky scent, the list is endless ! One of our lovely neighbours has a beautifully fragranced home and during the summer we can tell when her windows and doors are open as we get the gorgeous scent blowing on the breeze.
