Find The Needle Add My Company
Upturn in a Downturn
Upturn in a Downturn Achieving records in an economy that’s in a major slump is no easy matter, but that’s exactly what Lancashire based IT recruitment specialists, Adria Solutions, has done … and keeps doing. Since establishing the business eight years ago, this dynamic recruitment company has experienced its second highest ever turnover in the month of June 2012. ‘We’ve experienced an enormous rise in .NET vacancies,’ says Managing Director, David Graham, ‘especially C#, both Web and Windows based. There’s a severe skills shortage in this area, which means salaries for C# candidates, who are as difficult to find as gold nuggets, are at their highest levels ever. Another job skill set that is highly desirable is PHP and Java, but once again, suitable candidates are proving to be hard to find.’ Eurozone Crisis The Eurozone crisis has forced the UK government to adopt substantial cuts and savings in many areas that affect the economy. Unemployment in 2012 will be rising from a much higher starting point, so the UK jobs market will be weaker than in the recession of the 1990s. Although there’s been an unwelcome increase in the numbers of unemployed, there have been signs recently that the labour market is slowly recovering. Results from a study undertaken by a major online recruiter, reveal a highly robust and competitive jobs market. Although the job supply market has increased by 8% throughout the UK, there has been a rise of 42% in the number of job applications. As an example of the volume of candidates showing an interest in positions, Adria Solutions recently advertised a second-line support vacancy for a Manchester-based company and received a total of 126 initial applications after just three days. Job Prospects on the Increase ‘Even though the job market is a very tough environment,’ says David, ‘candidates are looking beyond salaries and carefully weighing up the benefits offered by employers - benefits like flexitime, working from home, holiday entitlement, productivity bonuses and career progression. For those Developers who are unhappy in their current positions, now is a good time to make their next career move, as salaries are on the increase and there are some exciting job prospects to be found. Over the last few years, the economic downturn has meant that many job seekers have taken up job positions that haven’t been exactly ideal, simply because they had to find employment. As the economy eases and the high unemployment rates start to fall, it’s expected that more people will change jobs for positions that will make them happier and more fulfilled.
