Efficient roof skid of the eight-storey Centro Cultural Bicentenario in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Overview The roof of the eight-storey Centro Cultural Bicentenario in Buenos Aires has been successfully skidded by ALE. The skidding took place in tandem with the manufacturing of the roof, ensuring the efficiency of the operation. The 1500t roof is a Vierendeel type structure measuring 52m x 50m x 5m. Each roof section was assembled on site and then skidded into position whilst the next section was assembled. Each skid was 4m and twelve skiddings were performed. The equipment used included ten push pull jacks with a 16t and 25t capacity, and 24 skidding flat systems providing 150t capacity in two skidding tracks. Once the skidding stage was completed, ALE withdrew the skids with partial jackings using twelve hydraulic cylinders with 50t capacity.
