Part of Castings Plc a dedicated foundry group made up from two UK foundries and a dedicated in-group machinist (CNC Speedwell). Whether taken as a part of a group or taken as a stand-alone company Wm Lee is one of the UK’s most successful foundries. Established over 100 years ago, we specialise in the production of medium to high volume repetition castings in S.G. Iron, Austempered Ductile Iron, SiMo and Grey Iron. As part of Castings Plc we form one of Europe’s leading foundry groups operating from 3 sites within the U.K. and have an annual turnover exceeding £85 million. At our Dronfield works we utilise Disamatic D2013 vertical moulding and GF/Disa horizontal moulding to produce repetition castings generally within a weight range of 0.1kg to 35kg. We can also offer prototyping facilities etc. Parts can be supplied as either raw castings or fully finished machined components as required. Capacities We currently have a manufacturing capacity of 35,000 tonnes P/A. This will increase to 50,000 tonnes P/A 2009. We have an on-going investment program at Wm. Lee with over £17 million invested in recent years in additional and replacement manufacturing plant. A further £12 million will be invested during 2008 in the installation of an additional horizontal mould foundry with dedicated melting and processing facilities. We have comprehensive and modern processing, heat treatment and inspection facilities. This investment combined with a ‘Continuous Improvement Philosophy’ and ‘Zero Defect Objectives’ assists us in meeting our customer’s objectives of ‘High Quality Components at Minimum Cost’. In addition to numerous quality approvals, our strict quality control system is fully approved to ISO 9001, TS1649 with Q1 Pending. Accreditations and approval to the Environmental Standard ISO 14001. Our continuous improvement philosophy extends to our Health and Safety procedures, where we endeavour to achieve best practice to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all our employees, contractors and visitors to site. We supply a wide range of industries including the Automotive (Cars and Commercial Vehicles), Railway, Valve, Trailer and Agricultural sectors. Our customers include large multi-national concerns and smaller specialised engineering companies. Over 45% of our production is exported.
