5 Best Remote Jobs for Students
12/01/2021

If you want to get a remote, part-time job while being a student, things might be much easier for you than you think. Nowadays, there are hundreds of professions you can pursue online, with most of them offering great career opportunities and substantial salaries. Here are some of the most popular remote jobs for students you should be focusing on in 2020.

Copywriter

Being a copywriter is an excellent option for students as you can work wherever you are and whenever you want. What’s more, if you are really good at the job, it pays quite well, and you can even turn it into a full-time job when you are done with your studies. What does a copywriter do, you might wonder? Well, a copywriter is supposed to write texts that are referred to as “copy.” A copy is a text that means to sell or promote some product, be it a shampoo or cybersecurity software – the copywriter’s job is to show the readers just how good the product is by creating engaging verbal content.

As a copywriter, you can feel free to work for a local or foreign company. What’s more, you can even choose the language you want to write in. It does not necessarily have to be English. If you are a bilingual person and can write in two different languages – there will be even more job opportunities for you as a remote copywriter, just find the right websites with writing projects.

Web Developer

The profession of a web developer is on the list of jobs that will face the highest demand in the nearest future. There are hundreds of startups being created every day around the world, and each of them needs a solid foundation – a website representing their online identity. That’s why they will be looking for a creative web developer to do a job for them. Ideally, you would need to get a degree in computer science for web development to be an easy and gradual process for you. However, not everyone has that luxury, and actually, most developers that are seen as quite a catch by global companies do not even have a computer science background.

With distance learning becoming more and more popular, there are already hundreds of courses you can take to gain valuable skills. Among the most popular online learning platforms where you can find such courses are Udemy, Coursera, Treehouse, Codeacademy, and W3Schools. All of them have developed engaging courses that will teach you professional web development from scratch. What’s more, some of the courses are free or cost very little money, like $11, so this is a job you can pursue with minimum investments.

Mobile Developer

The good news is that you do not even need to get a relevant degree to become a mobile developer and start getting remote projects. You can do mobile development even if your major is history. Most mobile developers are self-taught; they took various online courses and applied their knowledge in projects. And this is what you can do in your free time too. Research the job of a mobile developer, see if you like it, start taking some training, and then look for some freelance gigs that usually allow remote work. As a mobile developer, you will get to create mobile applications of different sorts. Most good mobile developers never have problems when it comes to finding a remote project, and they always get paid quite handsomely. With technology booming, being a mobile developer is one of the best choices you can make when it comes to a part-time or full-time job. Even in such troubling times as the coronavirus pandemic, mobile developers remain within the lucky group of professionals who didn’t lose their job and didn’t even get a pay cut.

Translator

Being a freelance translator is something any student can do as the job offers a flexible schedule and decent pay. As long as you know two languages or more, even if your knowledge of the second foreign language is not perfect, you can still expect to get good remote job offers as a translator. For one thing, there are many platforms, like Upwork or Fiverr, where you can reach out to your potential customers and tell them what kind of translation you can do for them and how much money.

Being a translator is not the hardest job in the world, but it is also not the easiest: you need to continually work on improving your knowledge of the languages you work with. The better your vocabulary and grammar are, the bigger clients you are going to get. There are lots of free apps that can help you learn your target languages faster. Among the most popular language apps are Duolingo, MemRise, Rosetta Stone, HelloTalk, Babbel, and others. You can get them for free or pay some money to unlock premium features.

Teacher

Working as a teacher remotely used to be not that popular. However, with the Covid-19 around, the whole world had no other choice but to turn to distance learning. The teachers that are open to embracing technology in their work are valued more than ever: all college lectures and seminars are conducted online. All tutors also get in contact with their students with the help of programs like Skype and Zoom. You have probably already heard this, but things are not going to “go back to normal” after the pandemic. The world and the job market are going to change forever. Distance learning, being the savior of the day for global education, will also not lose its value. As an online teacher, you can train primary, secondary, or high school students. You can teach lots of subjects like history, languages, maths, etc. Another good thing is that you save quite a lot of time here since you don’t have to commute to meet your students. Instead, you can do everything from your home.
