Packaging fireside chat summary
Packaging can be complex. Let us keep it simple. Packaging is something that will probably never leave the market since all products (unless specifically manufactured to not require any) will require some sort of protective packaging materials to get the product from manufacture to the customer safely and in a presentable standard. Westmount has been supplying protective packaging materials to clients across the globe for 40 years and specialises in the Fine Art Packaging sector, International and high-end removals. So where do I start with Packaging? Our Director Derek suggests you do a simple thing - call us! :) As packaging suppliers, we know how to approach different shaped products and how that product differs from another and therefore needs slightly different packaging. If you're just starting out and need some packaging for starters to get your product on the road to success, then you're best off sending us some pictures, your ideas and any other information and letting us do the leg work. If you have some idea of what you want then by all means send us your thoughts and again we'll bring you some ideas of what we think will suit the application. With packaging, it's very easy to send samples for you to try out, so no need for buying something you haven't seen! Which is the best route for me? There are some simple rules that might help you decide which route to take with packaging. Check out the Q&A below. I've just started out in Business and I need something cost effective, what do I use? The simple answer is keep it plain. Plain packaging is a lot less expensive than printed as there's a lot less processes involved. Also in most cases we can provide you the packaging you need from our stock, keeping hassle and cost out of the picture. Yes - we hold quality stock products that won't let you down. On the other hand, it could be printed will work best for you. If so then we can definitely look into some different options. Be aware that printed cartons tend to follow the following quantity format: Less than 1000 tends to be very ineffective cost wise. 1000-2000 the cost is slightly better spread across the order 2000-5000 the sweet spot for cost effectiveness 5000+ you're on a roll and making massive savings with your printed cartons NB: When you first order bespoke plain or printed cartons there could be tooling charges which range from ?100 - ?1500 depending on the complexity. That's why it's best to stay with Westmount as we will only charge you once for your tooling charges instead of being on every order. ;) TOP TIP: If you need your name or brand on your packaging but don't want to go full print - use printed tape. Gets your name on the packaging as a low cost and without having to buy too much. We are an established business but want to change our packaging, what's the best move to make? It's all fairly self-explanatory and you could say simple to us, but we want to make it simple for you. As mentioned above, the best people to redesign your packaging and change how you use your packaging, is the packaging company themselves. 1. Ask for one of our team to come in and speak to you about it. Nothing beats a quick chat to find out the facts so you get what you want and not what you don't want. 2. Let us (the packaging company) do the hard work for you. All we need is some pictures of the products and information about what you think you want! 3. Begin with the end in mind. Design you packaging with the following in mind (in this order): Customer, Packing team, Company brand image. 4. Lastly, get samples of everything (we give them out free by the way) so you know what it all looks like. I don't have space for all my packaging, so where do I store it all? This question could come about because of a smaller warehouse, or you're using a fulfilment company or lastly you're just so rammed with your own products you have little space for your packaging. Don't worry, it happens a lot and we have a simple solution. Order your packaging from us = we'll store it for you at no extra charge and deliver it when you want it. We call it Stock & Serve. We stock your packaging materials for you, whether plain or printed it doesn't matter, and serve them to you when you need it and not before. Easy. On time every time. Yes. We Do. I want to go sustainable with my packaging, what's the first step? Firstly we recommend reading our blog about Eco-friendly packaging here. Sustainability can mean different things to different people but the way we define it as "keeping all plastic packaging waste to a minimum and doing the least harm possible to the environment with your packaging materials". Westmount provides a whole host of eco-friendly packaging materials, and most of them are plastic free. You will also notice some plastic products in our eco-friendly range as they are either multi-use such as our palletshells or i-Wrap which reduces your plastic waste significantly using new technology. Moving to completely sustainable packaging can be a big *gulp* at first, because of the big changes and the cost involved, but over time, this cost mitigates, your customers will enjoy ordering from you in the knowledge you are doing the best you can to be sustainable and they will like the new look of your packaging. Ok so what next? Speak to us today to get your packaging taken care of. Nothing to hard, nothing to complex. It's just simple.
