Schunk Jubilee Centennial celebrations begin at Rothamsted Research
Weiss Technik UK held the first of its Schunk Group Jubilee centennial celebrations on Wednesday 15th May 2013 with a plant growth Customer Day at Rothamsted Research. Weiss Technik UK (formerly Weiss Gallenkamp) forms part of the Weiss Group, one of four divisions across the Schunk Group. Founded in 1913 by Ludwig Schunk, the Schunk Group celebrates its centennial in 2013. Throughout 2013, Schunk group companies across the globe are undertaking a series of events to celebrate 100 years of Schunk. The United Kingdom began its first event at Rothamsted Research, the longest running agricultural research station in the world and a long-standing user of Fitotron® products. The partnership between Weiss Technik UK and Rothamsted Research spans in excess of 30 years. The first part of the Weiss Technik UK Customer Day consisted of a series of presentations by leading Rothamsted researchers, speaking on the challenges of food security for the future, working with Fitotron® Controlled Environment quarantine plant materials and new crop developments. Delegates from across Europe and the UK were given a unique insight into the latest plant and pest research, focusing on future food production. Braving the weather, customers donned umbrellas for the second part of the day and were given an exclusive tour of the Manor and the famous ‘Broadbalk’ – the world’s longest, continuous field experiment. Rothamsted Research houses a range of Fitotron® plant growth research Controlled Environments, from older models to the latest technologies. For the final part of the day, attendees had the opportunity to tour the facilities and discuss the wide range of plant applications. The Weiss Technik UK Customer Day was heralded a great success by all.
