In honour of National Apprenticeship Week, we're thrilled to spotlight the journey of Matthew Ellaway, our Technical Support Apprentice at Weiss Technik UK. Matthew shares his motivations for pursuing an apprenticeship in engineering, the skills he's gained, and his aspirations for the future, aiming to inspire the next generation of apprentices.
Opting for an apprenticeship was an exhilarating plunge into the realm of engineering, and selecting Weiss Technik UK to launch my career was an obvious choice. As a local and expanding company, it brims with opportunities for professional advancement. My role encompasses all facets of engineering that intrigue me, offering a platform to learn new skills and deepen my industry knowledge in ways I couldn't have imagined through traditional university routes.
My experience at Weiss Technik has been incredibly positive thus far. The team's warmth and camaraderie made settling in a breeze. The unwavering support from my colleagues has been pivotal during my initial days, affording me the chance to explore diverse opportunities that have enriched my insight into the industry. It's been a promising beginning, and I eagerly anticipate further learning and growth as my apprenticeship journey unfolds.
In the brief time I've been onboard, I've already acquired a plethora of skills that I apply daily in my role. From effectively communicating with customers to remotely troubleshooting their climatic test chamber issues, each day presents fresh challenges. I've also delved into calibrations and maintenance tasks on the chambers, integral aspects of our work. These hands-on experiences have been invaluable in honing my soft skills—a facet whose significance becomes apparent when put into practice.
Casting my gaze towards the next five years, my primary objective is to successfully complete my apprenticeship and transition into a role with heightened responsibilities. Armed with the experience and expertise garnered along the way, I aspire to engage more directly with customers, witnessing firsthand how our chambers are utilised across diverse industries.
My stint at Weiss Technik UK has been a gratifying initiation into the realm of engineering. As I continue to absorb, adapt, and evolve, I eagerly anticipate the opportunities my apprenticeship will unveil. Weiss Technik UK isn't just a workplace; it's a springboard for budding apprentices like myself to flourish and evolve into the engineers of tomorrow.
