It's National Gardening Week!

The 14th – 20th April was renamed three years ago by the RHS as ‘National Gardening Week’. The proposal behind the week was to encourage and educate the nation on celebrating and interacting with gardening. Since the dedicated week started it has flourished into the country’s biggest festival of all things green with thousands of cultural organisations, charities, homeowners and businesses becoming involved in gardening. This year sees the 50th anniversary of RHS Britain in Bloom, which is the UK’S leading volunteering project, making it an even bigger occasion. Whether you’re an enthusiastic novice or a green fingered pro, own a field or a city rooftop garden, there is plenty of advice, activities and appliances to help with gardening. One of the issues highlighted around this period is recycling, recycling garden waste can be easy and hassle free with recycling sacks and optional weighted bases means you don’t have to worry about the bag and contents blowing away, many councils are offering residents free compost during this week if you take along your own bag. Here at Weir & Carmichael we couldn’t be more excited about National Gardening Week. Longer, lighter days have crept upon us and our gardens and it seems a perfect time to celebrate spring with family and friends. The National Trust has over 160 gardens for the public to enjoy and engage in, from how to classes to hints and tips. Get involved – The National Trust and the RHS have plenty of activities for both adults and children on offer ranging from how to plant a hanging basket to games and quizzes. 2. Family activities – There are many activities you can do with friends, family and neighbours such as making bird feeders or raising money by baking for local community gardening areas. 3.
