How to make your own wax melts?
Are you looking for a new hobby this year? Did you know wax melts can lift your moods? From the moment the fresh scents are unleashed into the room, you will notice a massive difference!
There has been proven research to suggest smelling certain oils can help improve a person’s mood and boost their immune system. The study found lemon oil had a positive effect on people’s moods when they smelt it.
What is a wax melt?
A wax melt is a scented chunk of wax that releases a fragrance when heated. They are an alternative to candles, which are usually cheaper and stronger in fragrance - as waxes hold more fragrance oil than candles.
So, how can you start making wax melts?
Believe it or not, the process of creating wax melts is so simple! It will take you around half an hour to make the wax, but you will need to allow a few hours for the melts to solidify.
Ingredients:
15-20ml essential oils
200g beeswax beads
10g of candle dye - for colour
100g coconut oil
300ml water
Equipment:
Saucepan
Large spoon
Silicone ice cube tray
Heatproof glass bowl
Method
Bring a saucepan of 300ml water to boil.
- Melt beeswax, coconut oil and candle dye.
Put the beeswax, coconut oil and candle dye into the heat-proof glass bowl. Place the bowl over the water. Use a large spoon to gently stir the ingredients as it melts.
- Add essential oil
When the oil and beeswax have combined, take them off the heat and add your choice of essential oil.
- Pour into moulds
Now it’s time to pour the wax into a mould of your choice.
- Finished!
Now leave the mould tray in a cool place and allow the wax melts to solidify. After a couple of hours, your wax melts will be ready to use!
