Renoir Vintage Copper Cufflinks
This is a fabulous pair of Renoir vintage copper cufflinks, which rarley come up for sale. The square design with the black oxidized shadow giving them depth, is typical of the geometric designs of the 1940s and 50s that still has a contemporary look for today's fashions. Both cufflinks are signed on the back of the swival T-bar shank with the Renoir geometric signiture and can be dated to the late 1940s to the early 1950s as they do not have the © mark used on all pieces after 1954.
Would suit a unisex wardrobe.
Good vintage condition.
Renoir of California was founded in 1946 by Jerry Fels, specialising in solid copper jewellery. While the earlier Arts & Crafts movement was an inspiration to many of the designs, most of the pieces show characteristics of the geometric and abstact designs of the mid 20th century. In 1952 Fels also founded a subsidiary company called Matisse Ltd, which took the copper jewellery a stage further by adding colourful enamel decoration with designs based on natural objects such as leaves. Sadly, both companies ceased trading in 1962, but left behind two distinctly recognisable forms of costume jewellery.
