Groove Pins

Groove pins provide a re-useable, cost effective, alternative fastener. Various groove designs are available to suit all types of applications.PRINCIPLE The grooved pin has three cylindrical grooves swaged into the material longitudinally. This effectively increases the nominal diameter within controlled limits. When the grooved pin is inserted into a drilled hole of the same nominal diameter the constraining action of the hole causes the six points of the swaged grooves to be compressed as the grooved pin is inserted. When fully inserted the elasticity of these swaged grooves expand producing an effective locking fit which gives a strong reliable fastening.FASTENING The grooves give increased retention over the whole length of the grooved portion so the use of the grooved principle is technically as well as practically better than a knurled or taper pin to name just two of the many fasteners that grooved pins can replace. A grooved fastening can be supplied for practically any engineering job in a wide range of imperial and metric sizes and finishes.INSTALLATION The principle of the grooved pin relies on an amount of compression of the swaged grooves. Only drilled hole is required, this eliminates the need for close tolerance reaming, peening or tapping (See figure 1).
